Team building events are not just about playing awkward games and making a fool of yourself because your boss asked for it. They are not merely for entertainment either, as there are countless better ways to have fun without spending the weekend with colleagues who may get on your nerves. Team building is so much more than that! It’s about developing skills that can be applied in your day-to-day work, unleashing creativity, and tapping into untapped reserves of motivation. When you connect with your colleagues on a deeper level, you not only build trust but also a sense of camaraderie that fosters innovation and collaboration.

In my view, paradoxically, team building is less about “we”, and more about “I”. It focuses on personal transformation, which in turn leads to better team performance. The personal growth of the employees enhances their capacity to contribute effectively to the team’s success, ultimately elevating the overall performance of the organization.

If you as a manager expect that your team-building weekend will significantly enhance the atmosphere within your team, I must disappoint you. I have seen some managers invest a lot of money taking their employees to luxury resorts, preparing BBQs for them, singing karaoke, and trying to be their best buddies for a day or two, all in an attempt to compensate for making their lives miserable throughout the rest of the year. In such cases, team building proves to be a waste of time.

As a facilitator of team-building events, my aim is to inspire participants to reflect on their behavior, consider positive changes in their attitudes, and motivate them to embark on a voyage of self-discovery and personal development.

If you agree that team building is a strategic investment in the personal growth of your employees, I am delighted to accompany you on this transformative journey.
